Lilacs on Parade

Greetings & Salutations.  I know I haven't blogged in ages, so if I happen to pop up in anyone's sidebar with this post I am truly grateful.

I was feeling a little ho hum after finally completing all of our beds/projects, and was in a holding patter to allow things to grow and fill in.  I purposely (with some difficulty) didn't look too closely at my beds for a few years, but am now ready to make a few changes.  Nothing drastic, some plants are just too big for their area, while others have not thrived and need to be replaced.

Here are my lilacs, which are blooming a little late this year.

Here is Mme Lemoine, finally settled in and blooming well (I have to look back, but I think I planted her about 5 years ago)

Here is our well established lilac, Pocohontas.

And the beautiful Sensation, beautiful, especially up close.

SPRING!

We now have a variety of colours and blooms, the Double Flowering Plum is putting on a decent display (though not as impressive as the spring after we threatened to cut them down...)

Here are a few Ice Follies behind a small protective fence.  Seems to work with both 2 and 4 legged individuals!

Brunnera Jack Frost is growing very well after his first winter here. 

Old Fashioned Bleeding Hearts are growing very quickly!  Well, at least the pink ones are, the white seems to be a little more reluctant.

Muscari is a great splash of colour, I was worried about invasiveness, but it is staying quite well contained.  Must not be ideal growing conditions, which might be working to my advantage.

Here is my small group of Pink Parasol Narcissus, they are very fancy with their frilly trumpets.  Bowing a little in the hot midday sun.

Moss Phlox is covered in blooms, wish I had planted these much earlier in my Garden's development.

 Now the race between the Tulips and Lilacs is on.  Both have great blooms forming, can't wait to see them!

Up next - The Daffodils.

The daffodils seemed to arrive early this year, I think they are my favorite spring bloom. 

If I could only grow 1 variety, it would be Cool Flame, the salmon coloured trumpets are so incredibly pretty.

Ice Follies line the driveway, unfortunately they face the wrong way for viewing.  It makes them seem a but uppity, but they are only following the sun.

The tall and reliable Dutch Master greet visitors as they approach the front door. 

Tulip foliage is going strong, they should make their appearance quite soon. :)

I'm back! With crocuses (or is it crocii?)

I'm back!! After a long winter/blogging break, there is finally new growth to report on! Hope everyone is doing well, thanks so much if you've left my blog in your sidebar and are reading this!

Still Blooming

It feels like the garden is done for the year, but there are still a few blooms hanging on! Heliopsis has started to wane, but still has plenty of yellow blooms on large plants.




Perennial Sage has recovered from some flattening deluges, the shed has gone from blue to yellow, providing a different backdrop.

The little self sowing Cosmos blooms are still providing interest in the tulip bed.

Hydrangea Kyushu is still looking fresh in the shade.

This tall Aster is interwined in the dogwood, I like the combination, from far, it looks like the dogwood is flowering.

Phlox David is glowing in a shady corner.

First blooms on the Variegated Obedient Plants, they plants are much lankier than their regular counterparts, but are an interesting addition.

Little Lamb Hydrangea has faded to a nice green colour.

Stella D'Oro is blooming as usual, first to start, last to stop.

Despite some cold nights, Petunia Sophistica is still producing some interesting blooms.

The Blue Stars are shining as well.

A few Campanula pictures, little Fairy Thimble has a few blooms..

..and the taller peachleaf does as well.

I am crazy about Fall Asters, I wish they were easier to find. They are often sold in amongst the fall mums, so searching the racks is sometimes beneficial.

Snowdrop Anemone puts up a bloom now and again, pretty as ever.

The cooler nights have made Unique Hydrangea blush.

The roses had gone through a rest period but are now blooming madly, here is Sunrise Sunset.

And Morden Sunrise.

A few weeks ago I planted the little annual Dianthus, they return well and make a great border.
