A few May Flowers.

Not too much happening here yet, but I wanted to share these few blooms with you. Cool Flame narcissus is somewhat paler than I expected, but they may darken somewhat now that they are open. It could be the cold weather affected their colour development, but hopefully they will naturalize and return next year.

The Double Flowering Plum is just getting ready to burst, a few flowers have 'popped' already, I hope to have lots more over the next week.

Little Vinca minor is a lovely groundcover here, and has a few charming blue flowers. This one was taken in the 'set the camera on the ground & hope for the best' style of photography.

  1. Those are beautiful flowers. Those blue flowers are so small; I don’t think I would notice them. I hope you get warmer weather and more blooms soon!

  2. Lovely plum blossom. We've planted wild plum into our windbreak this year, and I can't wait for the year when they all bloom (50 of them!)

  4. Hopefully there will be no more snow this year, and the blossoms will really start coming out.

  5. Sweet pictures! We have a double flowering plum at the front that has done dismally until this year. Right now, it is loaded with flower buds. If they all open I will be thrilled. (Glad to someone else appreciates the hard working vinca!)

  6. The double flowering plum is beautiful, with a pretty colour and so many petals. My neighbour has one that peeks over the fence, so I get to enjoy a flash of pink.

Some bulbs just do their own thing, and I'm left wondering if I got the correct bulbs, they were mislabeled, the pictures were misleading, they're variations, or was it something in the soil?

  7. Hi vrtlarica, Thank you for your comment! I hadn't seen the little blue flowers before this year, I might have overlooked them in the past.

Hi & welcome Window on the Prairie, 50 plums will be magnificent in bloom! You must have quite a windbreak. Thanks for stopping by. :)

Hi Jean, Thanks for your message!

Hi Deborah, I do hope things get more exciting soon. I'll be sure to keep you posted. ;)

Hi MsS, the plums seem to be very finicky, but are happy this year. I look forward to seeing yours.

Hi Northern Shade, it's always nice to get a peek over the fence. I do think bulb (or any) pictures can be a little misleading, it is advertising afterall. But certainly their plants are grown under IDEAL conditions and how many of us are able to replicate that in real life?

  10. Hi Noelle, These aren't fruiting plums, just ornamenal, but the flowers are lovely.

Hi Catherine, it is warming up finally, but with night temps still near freezing it's too soon for bedding out plants.
