With the sun, comes so much new growth.

I'm noticing changes almost by the hour now, so there's lots to blog about.

I can't believe how pretty the Crimson King Norway Maple is at the moment, the leaves are such a vibrant red colour, and since they're still so small it reminds me a little of a Japanese Maple.

I finally got my little signs distributed in appropriate spots In The Garden.

Here is a surprise tulip, the only one in the bed. I didn't think there were any tulips left here, but you never know what will come up.

I'm always happy to see the Ivory Halo Dogwood in the spring, I really love this shrub, it is gorgeous in the shade and is very reliable. It is just starting to leaf out, but should be full & lush soon.

The lilac shrub is getting ready to open, it was 1/2 in the sun 1/2 in the shade this morning, so I took this picture. I like the way it turned out.

Here are a few tulips which just opened, they are from my 'blue' mix, although the darker ones have yet to open. I like the pretty edges on this one, and the interesting shape of the one below...

The Polemonium is setting nice flower buds. After reading Northern Shade's warning about powdery mildew, I gave it a strict talking to and told it that if it misbehaved, it would have to go. Pretty blue flowers or not. We'll see what happens...

And here are some little dwarf arctic (?) irises I was given by a friend last year. It's nice to see them come up & bloom.

I'll buy the rest of my bedding plants today and get the containers planted this weekend. So glad the warm weather is finally here!

(Can anyone tell me if my pictures are decent? I have to lower the image size to about 500kb due to my slow connection and since I only work on a netbook now the images I see are quite small. I use a very basic camera and am not looking for professional type pics, but want them to at least be reasonably clear. Tx)

  1. Rebecca, your pictures appear fine. It's always a trade off between fast loading and detailed photos. I lowered mine a while back to save file size and make for faster loading for visitors. Some of your photos can be clicked to enlarge and some can't.

I hope the bees and butterflies appreciate your extended business hours. :)

  3. Little sun and warmth can make all the difference in the garden. Lovely pictures! I also resize mine, as I also work on notebook with a slower connection.
    I love the garden sign.

  7. I adore your little signs! I think the pics look great. Mine always look small even though I use the largest setting blogger allows. I really like that creamy yellow tulip, what a nice shape.

    Happy gardening!

  8. Hi Northern, Thanks for the picture info! I don't think the bees & butterflies will get much better than 24/7 lol.

Hi Chandramouli, Thanks for your message! I'm glad you like my tulips. I hadn't planted them for years since I tend to have trouble with them, but this year is going well so far.

Hi vrtlarica, I'm glad you like my sign! It's nice to know others have similar computer setups as mine.

Hi Beth, Thanks for your great message! I'll be sure to post update pics of my polemonium. I'm flattered that you like my bulb pictures.

Hi Curbstone Valley Farm, I'm so glad you like the dogwood, it is one of my favorite plants.

Hi Kyna, have you looked into lilacs for your zone? I think the purple lilac vine grows in the deep south and is lovely.

Hi Ms S, I'm glad you like my signs! The tulip is quite interesting, I hope to have more to show soon. Happy Gardening to you too!

  9. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with tulip orphans. I'll often lift a clump and move it somewhere only to be suprised at the one I missed in the spring. I have the yellow-stemmed dogwood and enjoy it very much...when the moose leave it alone!

  10. Rebecca girl ! Your pictures are great : ) are they 950/712 ? because they look the same as mine .. I work on a lap top .. when number one son moves out finally , I will get an office ! and a regular desk top pc .. eventually ? LOL
I was considering Ivory Halo .. but "room" is in question so I have to work on that first.
The lilacs are gorgeous and who doesn't love that scent!! ? : )

  11. Christine, I can't imagine having moose invaders, the deer are bad (&big) enough.

Joy, I don't know what 950/712 means, so I can't answer lol. You would LOVE ivory halo, the red branches are beautiful in the winter. Mine is in full shade so it doesn't flower or fruit, but is gorgeous and not very big.

  18. Your pictures are good. Mine go thru around 100kb, which is fine for a quick-loading blog. Really only need more detail, if you are using it as a wall-paper, or for the professional photographers to advertise their work.

  19. Hi Diana, 100? That would be great! Maybe I'll try it next time. Thanks for the information. :)

  20. Rebecca, I think your photo's are great. I understand your frustration with a slow connection. We had dial up until about 4 yrs ago. We soooo love DSL. Especially those of the tulips and the polemonium. I am growing the polemonium for the first time my self. I cant wait to see it bloom. I hope the blooms turn out a true blue. I would love to have an all blue bed.Where did you find that fantastic sign? I would love to start adding some to mine.

  21. Hi Tammy, Welcome to my little blog! The polemonium flowers are a true blue, which is always such a welcome addition. An all blue bed would be fantastic! The sign was from my local garden centre, but I'll find the name and post it to your blog. I received 4 different ones for Christmas, you can see them here..http://prefertobeinthegarden.blogspot.com/2009/12/gardening-gifts.html. :)

  22. Your signs are very charming and I also think that your photos look DANG good so don't worry about them.
Interesting...I think you solved a mystery about some iris I have. They never got very tall and I think it may be because they were dwarf and I never knew it. That's what you get when people gift you plants. No labels...ha ha.

  23. Hey Rosey, Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad I could solve the Myster of the Iris for you lol.
