(Wordless) Wednesday: Proud as a Peacock

Here are a few pictures taken in the Dorothy Harvie Gardens of the Calgary Zoo. I think of the peacock as HRH, he emerged onto the rock 'platform' through the foliage like a King stepping onto a balcony through velvet drapes to address his subjects.

  1. Rebecca, I love the contrast between your header photo (current reality) and the photos in your post (garden dreams of warmer times). -Jean

  2. (She used the brackets in the title this time. Smart girl ! ;) )

We got over a foot of white heavenly droppings here today. That cheery spot of gold is just what I needed to warm my soul. Thank you ! :)

  3. Hi Jean, thanks for your great compliment, I was thinking of changing the header due to the extreme contrast, but now I'll leave it alone.

miss M, (I thought it was pretty clever, I'm surprised no one mentioned my type-o 'worldless', now corrected). Glad my post warmed you, I guess our blizzard has hit you now.

  4. Seeing the colorful peacock and the sunny flowers makes me almost forget about the cold weather. The gardens there are beautiful.

  5. Rebecca, my uncle had peacocks on his farm. One morning, my mum and I had stayed overnight. We were awakened very early by a woman screaming. We bolted out of bed to find out what was happening. We found out that it was the peacock! Were we embarrased!

  7. Hi Rebecca,

I never thought of it before, but peacocks really do have a regal air about them don't they? I loved the pictures of the bright flowers. It really brightens a winter day :0)

  10. Hi Catherine, I found them to be very warming too, which is much needed given the current weather conditions!

Hey Deborah, Great story, I've heard their shrieks before, very unpleasant. Quite a contrast with their external beauty. I find the same applies to Blue Herons, their call makes me think of a Pterodactyl lol.

sweetbay, I know what you mean. It's almost blinding when you combine beautiful birds & beautiful flowers!

Hi Noelle, I'm so glad you liked the pictures. :)

Hey Joy, I'm glad I could brighten your day, it's the least I could do after sending the winter storm your way! ;)

Hi Tatyana, it's hard to even imagine s-u-m-m-e-r with the 2+ft of snow we have outside. But it will come. I'll be thrilled with the early spring bulbs start to emerge. sigh.

  14. Hi Kiki, So glad my post could brighten your day a little!

Hi Ms S, I love the peacock blue, truly an amazing colour. Your framing thread has inspired me to do a proper job with this guy, he's currently in an off the shelf wood frame, but I may give him a frame more worthy of his status.

Hi Frances, thanks for stopping by! I really found the 'nice day' banner to be hilarious, given the circumstances.

  15. I have heard a peacock once, long time ago. It was night and it scared me so much... very terrifying sound!
But they are pretty to look at!
