I have been battling with some black aphids that moved onto a Blue Fox Willow earlier this year, I may round up some of these little guys and see if they can do a better job than I have.

They are sooo cute. I just don't see as many ladybugs as I used to when I was a kid (maybe because I am not looking at the same height level?).
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky to have so many of them, especially in the spring and fall. You're right about them being low to the ground, actually, my official 'ladybug finder' found most of them for me ;).

ReplyDeleteThis weekend I had the hose out as a border, while edging a garden bed with my spade. It was only down a minute, and there was a ladybug travelling along it at a fast clip. It was the green superhighway through the grass. I had to put down my shovel and watch for a bit.
Hi Northern, So nice to see you! Your ladybug highway sounds delightful, they might be the cutest bug ever. Insects seem to know it's fall, and are all business at the moment. The bees are feasting on the fall asters in a very focused and hurried way.
ReplyDeleteWhen you mentioned edging your border with a garden hose & spade I thought the story was going to take another direction...I used the same combo for my new bed and the garden hose didn't make it :(. A little electrical tape and it's holding, for now.
Great pictures you should be proud of! Lady bugs mean a happy garden since they feast on those pesky aphids etc. Looks great and a very flattering combination of colors.
ReplyDeleteHi CV, Thanks for your message. Ladybugs are lucky, they look good with any background, even (surprisingly) pink. The more the merrier. I love the fact that they eat aphids.
