Snow White are the 7 Blooms

To round out my colour spectrum I will add this post in white, I promise that this will be the last 'recycled' post, I hope to have some new material soon.

The blanket of white snow everywhere has me thinking of white blooms. Here are seven from my garden.

Hydrangea paniculata 'Unique'

Hosta 'Royal Standard'

Dianthus 'Arctic Fire' (Pinks)

Campanula carpatica 'alba'

Physostegia virginiana (Obedient plant, doesn't grow well for me, so not living up to it's name.)

Anemone sylvestris 'Snowdrop'

Shasta Daisy, unsure of the variety, any guesses? My others are the rounded 'snowcap' and I prefer this one.

  1. Rebecca, I love your photos. Really makes me think of spring when I look at these white flowers, instead of the other white stuff! I ordered some obedient plant this year - mine will be pink and I hope it will be obedient for me! You know how plants are...you do your best, and some thrive, and some don't; some die off, some go crazy and make you wish you'd never planted them. All part of the adventure of gardening.

  3. Did I already say how gorgeous that header picture is Rebecca ? If not or if I did .. well here it is all over again "GORGEOUS" !!!
I missed a lot of other white flowers I could have posted with mine now that I see yours .. BIG sigh ! but isn't white so truly gorgeous ?
We saw the "Bear Chair tete-a-tete kit" two chairs with the table in between .. and then I just need my little portable fire-pit to roast my marshmallows in .. in Spring and Autumn because we all know I would melt in the summer heat along with the marshmallows ? haha
In any case ... I am VERY excited and will start calling the landscaping companies for quotes tomorrow .. this might just be a really FUN year in the garden for me : ) So I had to share with you girl !! LOL
    Joy (happy dancing) : )

  4. Beautiful pics :D I must put more white in my garden this year. I think I shy away from it because my house is white...

  5. I can see why you don't trim your hosta blooms back ! Very nice ! Isn't white just the most perfect color in a garden ! :)

  6. Rebecca, I love, love, love white, (you probably already know that!).

  7. Dear Rebecca, please recycle anytime! I love to see blooms this time of year....and WHITE is my absolute favourite! Your photos are gorgeous - I can see summer sun in them :)

I wondered if there was a hosta that had white flowers as I love hostas and am trying to be very disciplined in my colour choices for my main shade bed. The blooms on that Royal Standard look to be just the thing. So, see? I learned something new here today :-)

    Lovely post!

  8. Hi Beth, Thanks for your great comments, I'm so glad you like my pictures. I also planted some pink last year (variegated), we'll see how it does. For the last 2 years my obedient plants only grew some foliage, but I got some blooms this year, I'm glad I didn't pull them like I thought of doing. I agree some plants make you go crazy!

Hi Darla, Welcome! Thanks for your great comment. The header is actually from the fall, I plant full sun blooms in the shade and they don't bloom til August. Quite a gardening method, isn't it?

Hi Joy, Sounds like you have some great plans in the works, it'll be so much fun to get going with them! I'm so flattered that you like my header. Truth be told, it's my 'problem child' bed, almost a source of embarassement, since it rarely has blooms (I plant full sun blooms in FULL shade, and the buds sit unopened for months...). I love white, it's always perfect.

Hi Kyna, thanks for your message. I think white makes everything else look better, and will probably coordinate very well with your house. Try some and see how it goes! :)

miss m, It's always beautiful, especially in shade/dappled shade. Cut back the hosta blooms? lol!! I have grown hostas (or tried to grow, with limited success) for 3 years. This is the FIRST time I got anything resembling a bloom. It was so late in the season that the frost took it before it finished, but at least I got to see a few flowers. I hope it returns next year.

Hi Deborah, I think I did know that. But I'm not surprised, since you have impeccable taste. ;)

Hi Ms S, Glad I could provide some educational material. I had grown them for years with no blooms (& few leaves due to slugs), so I had no idea what the colour would be. It was a nice surprise, just before the first frost.

  10. I really enjoyed your hydrangea photos. I think I might need to find room for another. Your anemone is so pretty too, I've been wanting one of those. I don't know how they'd do here though.

Your problem child bed is gorgeous, doesn't look like a problem, you're just extending your bloom season!

  11. Hi vrtlarica, thanks so much for your comments. I really like shastas, but I find they don't last for very long.

Hi bloominrs, thanks for your message. I planted 3 hydrangeas last year, I don't know how they'll do long term but I'm hoping for the best. Thanks for your comment on my 'problem child' ;).

  12. White may look so plain and unattractive, but it sure looks serene and peaceful. Yea.., in fact white is 7 colours all mixed up, so white qualifies to be called colourful. ~bangchik

  13. Hi Bangchik, thank you for your lovely comment. Terrific reminder that white is ALL colours, since it is thought of as a lack of colour. Wonderful. :)

  14. Well, I was going to pick the white Hydrangea as my favorite, until I saw the Shasta Daisy. I just love daisies and all white flowers :^)

  15. Hi Noelle, Thanks for your comment! Daisies are great, their classic shape always makes me smile. :)

  16. Rebecca,
Beautiful white blooms, they always seem so fresh and clean reminding me of spring. I couldn't pick a favorite, I just love Anemone, Shasta Daisies, and Hydrangea. Oh! And Campanula, too!

  18. Rebecca, the white blooms are breathtaking and lined up together in photographs are really beautiful! I actually planted an obedient plant last summer and it did well for me, but I will see how it does this year. It is supposedly quite a 'spreader' and NOT obedient at all;-)

  19. Hi Rebecca, Your photos are very pretty! :-) I have a slew of lavender Obedient plant (not obedient), and I purchased the white last Summer... hopefully Obedient! ha.

  20. Hi Jan, Thanks for your great post, I really appreciate it! I haven't had any spreading problems, I can hardly get it to grow, let alone flower. And don't worry at all about the awards post, I completely understand that they can be overwhelming, and just add work, which was not my intent. I only awarded them as a 'thank you' for special blogs that I enjoy visiting.

Hi Shady, Thanks for your message, lavender must be lovely, I haven't seen them before. I am hoping mine behave better this year. :)

  21. Lovely photos, I love white flowers... They're always so pretty and seem so fragile for some strange reason :)

  22. Hi again Rebecca, yes, I did get your message and I appreciate it;-) It isn't so much that it's 'work', just a bunch of ambivalence! Not sure how I want to approach it. Can't seem to make up my mind whether I want to post about it or not! I haven't decided once an for all--so you might still see something about it at some point. Mostly, I do thank you for your thoughtfulness;-) Have a wonderful day Rebecca!

  23. Hi Rebecca,
I made the pumpkin muffins today and the kids loved 'em. My one son ate them with ice cream.
We had a problem though; I couldn't find plain pumpkin, only pie filling. So I don't know if they tasted as good as with the exact recipe, but we enjoyed them. Thanks again for the recipe.

  24. Jan, :)

bloominrs, Thanks for letting me know. The regular pumpkin is usually in the same section, and the cans are a little smaller. But either would work, you might be able to cut back the spices if using pie filling. I'm glad your kids liked them! I've been baking them in mini muffin pans for snacks.

  26. I am not very good in making titles, and this one really is very interesting, lol. It also gave me an idea of putting all the white flowers together, forget now the blue. thanks.

  28. Hi Andrea, Sorry I missed this post, I'm glad you like my title. Enjoy putting your white blooms together.

Hi Kiki, I agree about the magical qualities of white, especially at night or in the shade. I'm glad you popped in too, my blogroll misbehaves sometimes and I'm a little lost without blotanical. :)
