It has been quite drab here for the last few days, and there is nothing cheerier than a group of bright yellow flowers. These pictures feature the False Sunflower 'Heliopsis helianthoides, Summer Sun'. They grow well in a variety of conditions, and tolerate part shade very well.
I recently added some Jacob's Ladder 'Polemonium caeruleum', I think the blue/purple colour coordinates very well with the yellow.
They are also a favorite of bees.

The blue of the Polemonium does look nice with the golden yellow. I used to grow Polemonium, and loved the blue flowers, and ferny foliage. They would volunteer readily too.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that they volunteer readily, I would be happy to have many of these appealing perennials. Heliopsis also self sows readily, and I've been giving pots with a dozen babies away all summer, since I can't bear to pull them up & discard them.
